JIMMIE GONZALEZ

aka Speedy

Filmmaker / DJ / Producer

Eclectic artist Jimmie Gonzalez, better known to many as “Speedy”, continues to evolve as musician, DJ and filmmaker. His passion for fusing electronic music, cult cinema and technology has taken him from DJ’ing all over the world to producing, directing and composing for film.

As a DJ he identified with the darker side of electronic music mutating his sound into the deep hypnotic-techno that his listeners have come to expect. As if that weren't enough, these sounds were refined through his admiration for horror films & grind house cinema which opened the doors to his inevitable future.

In early 2004 Speedy's impression of the current state of "the scene” was at its low point. As others were fighting to keep classic conventions of DJ culture alive, Speedy was focusing on how to express his vision for the future. Soon after he created the DJ mix DVD’s “The Colors of Darkness” and “Electro Euro-Trash”. The concept consisted of classic euro-horror films of the 70’s & 80’s stylistically re-edited to a relentless dark-brooding techno mix intensifying climaxes from both shock cinema and goose bump induced vibes. The projects were called “innovative” and “masterful” by both Urb Magazine and Canada’s horror culture staple Rue Morgue Magazine. This was the un-conscious birth of what was to become “Cinema Therapy.”

Soon after, these projects instilled the confidence in him to pursue his life long goal...filmmaking. Jimmie’s directorial music video debut "Bad Habits” for artist Dan Diamond gained international appeal as well as being highlighted on DJ Bad Boy Bill’s “Behind the Decks Live” DVD. Other viral videos followed including projects for Jose 2 Hype, John Acquaviva’s Definitive Records imprint and Dan Diamond’s strip club anthem "She's a Dancer".

In 2006 he completed his first narrative short film entitled “Blood on the Tissues” selected as a finalist in the Howard Stern Film Festival. The horror comedy and Stern Show reputation was just the right formula needed to showcase Jimmie’s over the top display of sex, violence and adult humor. His film was called “a top notch production right up there with any of the Hollywood slasher films” by film critic Richard Roeper.

The editing, structure and pacing of the filmmaking process only solidified the power of music and picture which ultimately led to his current status...composing and scoring for film.

In 2008 the opportunity to submit a demo for CSI creator Anthony E. Zuiker led to sound designing and composing the music score for his cross-platform project “Level 26 - Dark Origins”. The groundbreaking digi-novel release introduces readers to view 3-5 minute motion picture scenes online then return to the book. The “Cyberbridges” include Speedy’s most haunting and visceral music to date allowing him to commercially display his eclectic sound for both film and book fans.

Currently Speedy's realized vision has come full circle with the debut of his live video mix show “Cinema Therapy”. Using Rane's Serato VSL software the set features film clips edited from various genres accompanied by music of all genres. With Cinema Therapy Speedy plans to audibly & visually assault patrons of both dance clubs and film festival events with a 2010 tour plan.

As composer for the groundbreaking Level 26 franchise, retreating to the decks with "Cinema Therapy" and already affirmed plans to return behind the camera, Speedy has substantiated that “The DJ is here to stay”.
